Our Approach to Education and Care

With so many choices of child care facilities, how do you know your child is receiving the best care possible? At Callahan Learning Center, we understand the importance of choosing child care. That’s why we offer a program that is built with the whole family in mind. Child care should be more than a safe place to drop your children off. It should be a place where the entire family is nurtured, empowered, and engaged. Our programs include the latest in child care technology.

Our classrooms are equipped with a variety of educational materials. Our staff is highly trained and passionate about the field of early childhood education. Our curriculum is based on Virginia Standards and includes individualized instruction and assessments for every child. At Callahan Learning Center, we believe in building a strong foundation for future success. Learners today, leaders tomorrow.

Educators

We pride ourselves as a team-focused, cooperative, and collaborative company. CLC preschool teachers and facility members meet all state-mandated qualifications, completing a comprehensive bac,ground check, and an intensive orientation process, to further educate, train and prepare them to enter each program knowledgeable and able to successfully manage their classrooms.

 

As a CLC Preschool Teacher, students are taught important elements of school life while maintaining their health, mental, and emotional development so they can easily transition into the next level of education.

Although Toddlers may not be communicating with words or have limited vocabularies, their behaviors, facial expressions, body language, and sounds tell us plenty. Thoughout our curriculum, you will find adaptive activities to include emerging learners to meet each students’ learning needs and develop at their own rate.

Working with Preschoolers, our goal is to provide opportunities for children to learn and grow. We strive to allow children to become independent thinkers and problem-solvers. We provide a quality, safe, and nurturing setting supplied with developmentally appropriate materials and flexible, yet predictable, schedule. Our curriculum allows for individuality and gives children time to complete their creations.

Positive Behavior Support

Each child is valued as a contribution to our education program and CLC ensures that children are treated with respect and dignity while the learning environment remains safe for all students and staff. When there is a need to manage the aggressive or violent behavior of students, there is a balance between maintaining an effective and safe learning environment for children and school staff.

When behaviors have been addressed, returning the student to the learning environment is paramount. CLC focuses on parent-teacher collaboration for each child’s personal success in their program, to help children learn appropriate emotional processing techniques and socially acceptable behaviors.

Implement developmentally appropriate research-informed curricula aligned with early learning standards, and use culturally and linguistically responsive practices that promote social-emotional learning and supportive teacher-child relationships

Are acknowledged as their child’s first teacher and engage in two-way communication with program administrators and teachers to support children’s learning an access comprehensive services,as needed to meet their children’s needs.

Provide teachers with ongoing support and professional development on teaching practices that promote children’s social-emotional development, while sustaining fully engaged parent-teacher partnerships.

All Three...

Implement strategies to address the individual needs of all children, and as applicable, the challenging behaviors of some children.
